Fennel was known as foeniculum to the ancient Romans, a name derived from the fact that it smells like hay while growing.

Eyebright grows in damp woods and meadows throughout Europe. The flower has the appearance of a bloodshot eye, having purple stripes and yellow spots. This herb is semi-parasitic and grows successfully only where suckers can attach themselves to certain grass roots from which it can obtain nutrients.

Eyebright is a very old and well respected herb in folk medicine. It is usually used as an external wash, poultice, or enjoyed as a tea.

This Australian native has been naturalized to many parts of the world for use as a decorative tree and an herbal remedy.

A time-honoured folk remedy, Eucalyptus can be used for many complaints, but is an especially useful tonic for symptoms involving the respiratory tract. The high oil content of the leaves makes Eucalyptus tea an effective inhalant. Make an extra hot cup of tea to evaporate the volatile oils, then just breathe in the steam!

This fragrant herb, also known as Elderberry Flower, has been found in stone and bronze age excavations and was used extensively by the ancient Greeks.

The Elder tree produces creamy-white flowers in late spring which are followed by bunches of purplish black juicy berries in early autumn.
