Motherwort is one of the staples of Chinese herbalism and was used amoung the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Romans brought it to the British Isles where it was common as a home remedy in the English herb garden until the fifteenth century. It found its way to North America where it is now appreciated for its virtues and cultivated from Nova Scotia to Montana.
This herb is a member of the mint family and has a pungent but aromatic scent and blends well with peppermint.
