Black tea comes from the same source as white, green, and oolong tea: the tea bush known to botanists as Camellia sinensis. All teas are generally distinguished from each other by where they come from and how they are fermented. This tea comes from northern India, where teas traditionally have a stronger flavor than Chinese teas because of the unique climate and mountainous growing conditions. Black tea is further distinguished by the way it is processed: fresh-picked tea leaves are rolled to break them and left to oxidize, or "ferment." Once fully oxidized, they are roasted to seal in the flavors.

Blending tea with lots of exotic spices makes a better, hotter, more enjoyable tea. That's just what we've done. With a 3 out of 5 on the hotness scale, this tea is best enjoyed on its own or with a hot and zesty meal.

A brief history of Chai:
The legend of Chai originates in India (perhaps Siam) over 5000 years ago where the royal family or their court created the first chai recipies and guarded them as national treasures.

Traditional brewing required boiling sweet and savory spices in milk and water, then adding black tea, steeping,  and straining the mixture. Honey was frequently added to counter the intense spicyness and bitterness.

Our teabags put an end to this labor intensive process. We have a chai blend for every taste, from mild to very spicy, with and without caffeine.

Here's how we brew Chai:
• Put teabags in a cup or pot (Use one teabag per cup of chai to be made)
• Pour some just-boiled water over the teabags and steep 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
• Remove the teabags.
• We like our chai straight, but many experiment by adding milk (soy or dairy) and honey or other sweeteners.
• Most important: relax and enjoy!

We do not use artificial flavorings, preservatives, or sweeteners of any kind.
